安房神社
Legend tells that, in the time of the first Emperor Jinmu (2,670 years ago), a god with a family named Imbe came from the West by boat, and landed on the site near the present location. Awa Shrine was built to enshrine the god, and has been the area’s most important Shrine since then. As you pass the massive white Torii gate and proceed along the approach into the precinct, the quiet, holy air welcomes you. Walk among big, aged trees, and pay a visit to the main shrine building. This is the shrine where locals visit on New Year’s Day, for special occasions such as to celebrate children’s healthy growth, or to have weddings. If you have a chance, come visit in early April, when cherry tress along the approach are in full bloom.
