Mount Nokogiri

鋸山

鋸山

The mountain is so called because it looks like a saw, or Nokogiri. It divides the Awa and Kazusa districts. The northern side of the mountain was a sandstone quarry in the Edo period, and the vertical walls we can see today are very photogenic. The southern side is the precinct of Nihon-ji temple, established in 725 by Gyoki. The stone Great Buddha is the largest Daibutsu in Japan. Several hiking courses in the area introduce you to the natural beauty of Minamiboso all year round.
